Jewelry for my elect(ron)ic personality.

Transistor Sister Circuit EarringsHow cute are these?  Transistor Sister electronic jewelry designs made from recycled electronic pieces in the USA.  So we get eco-friendly, stylish and geek-tastic jewelry.

They come in four styles, circuit board hoops in either silver or gold, silver fuses (pictured below) or plain silver circuit boards without hoops.  The ear wires are either gold filled, sterling silver and surgical steel.  Gold and sterling rarely cause allergic reactions and surgical steel is completely hypo-allergenic.

Something this interesting, who is it for?  ME!  Bwahahaha!  Great for computer buffs, electricians, engineers and anyone with an eye for the odd.  Sometimes, you just need a gift that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt isn’t already hiding in her jewelry box.

Knits for Nerds by Toni Carr

Somehow, I got lucky enough to get my knobby little fingers on an advanced copy of Knits for Nerds by Toni Carr (author of Knockdown Knits).  Now, my skills can only be classified somewhere between Basic and Intermediate, but what better motivation to learn then to get to the advanced projects in this book.

What I enjoy most about the patterns in Knits for Nerds is the diversity of nerd-categories it covers.  On the cover, it tells you that there are 30 projects for Science Fiction, Comic Books and Fantasy.  What it doesn’t tell you is that it runs from Lord of the Rings, to Harry Potter, Star Trek, Star Wars, an inspired pattern for The X-Men and it even reaches into the television world popping on The Big Bang Theory, Firefly and more obscure shows like Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.  You get a decent sampling for almost (yes, I did say almost) every nerd on the menu.

For us wee-basic knitters, the back of the book has a diverse and well explained selection of abbreviations and techniques, all with full colored photographs and easy to follow directions.  This book is a great gift for the Nerd, the Knitter, the Mother of the Nerd or the Knitter, and great for all skill levels.
