The Dark Knight Manual: Tools, Weapons, Vehicles and Documents from the Batcave

The Batman mythos has become  a huge, multi-generation phenomenon in popular culture, and it isn’t hard to see why.  Fan boys (and girls) of all ages watch the tormented hero running through his trials over and over again, being re-invented on occasion to suit the desires of the time.  In 2005, Christopher Nolan gave Batman an edgy new face (and a whole bunch of cool new gadgets) for audiences to enjoy.  The Dark Knight trilogy has recently come to a head with the release of The Dark Knight Rises, and (most) fans are ecstatic.

In July of this year, The Dark Knight Manual by Brandon T. Snider was released.  And it is beautiful.

A dark, brooding coffee table edition that has the very mood and tone of the film.  It is chalk-full of removable inserts, character profiles, color pictures from the films, maps and diagrams that help you immerse yourself in the world of Batman.

A couple of our favorites?  How about a map of Arkham Asylum?  Or The Joker’s Calling Cards?  Gotham Police Department stickers?  Oh yes.  Fans can easily fall in love with this book.  A great gift for Batman fans and a beautifully made addition to your coffee table selection.

Jewelry for my elect(ron)ic personality.

Transistor Sister Circuit EarringsHow cute are these?  Transistor Sister electronic jewelry designs made from recycled electronic pieces in the USA.  So we get eco-friendly, stylish and geek-tastic jewelry.

They come in four styles, circuit board hoops in either silver or gold, silver fuses (pictured below) or plain silver circuit boards without hoops.  The ear wires are either gold filled, sterling silver and surgical steel.  Gold and sterling rarely cause allergic reactions and surgical steel is completely hypo-allergenic.

Something this interesting, who is it for?  ME!  Bwahahaha!  Great for computer buffs, electricians, engineers and anyone with an eye for the odd.  Sometimes, you just need a gift that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt isn’t already hiding in her jewelry box.

Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps

We’ve been in a crafty kind of mood lately, and have been taking a look at the best of the best in paper craft supplies.  Rubber stamps are expensive, you generally get one at a time, and they take up loads of otherwise-useful space in your desk or crafting station.  Today we are checking out the Clear Art Stamps by Crafty Secrets.  These stamps come on a re-usable sheet, where you can take them of

f, position them on an infinitely re-usable acrylic block and stamp away to your hearts desire.

Rather then paying $8-$15 for a single stamp on awooden block, you can buy a small, medium or large sheet that contains anywhere from 5-100 individual stamps. Alphabet sheets usually contain more then art stamps.

There are many different brands and designs of Clear Stamps, and Crafty Secrets does manage to stand out.  They have a large selection, great and unique designs, and more importantly they produce a quality stamp.  The lines and ridges in each stamp are clearly defined and produce a clean edge for a beautiful impression.

We got to try out one of each sized sheet, the top photo shown is their “Greetings from Wonderland” a large sheet design, featuring beloved characters and sayings from Alice and Wonderland.  It is a great set for making greeting cards and adding accents to mixed-media art projects.

The second set we looked at was the Adore Alphabet, a medium sheet.  It has both upper and lowercase letters, a complete set of numbers, and a bit of punctuation to help you on your way.  This set is a stylized alphabet that looks great when combined with almost any other design.

Then from their Small sheets, taking a look at Altered Art.  I was a little nervous about this set at first, because there is a LOT of intricate details that will get lost if you are using an inferior ink, wiggle the stamp, or don’t apply even pressure.  I was truly impressed with the ease of use for these, give it a steady hand and the small bumps in the face and wings come out very nicely.

Overall, I enjoy Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps for quality, selection and the unique designs you can’t find anywhere else.  Check them out on their official website, or you can buy their designs (retired too!) on Amazon.com.

We so love pretty note sets!

It is a weakness, a fatal flaw.  We see pretty stationary and get hooked almost instantly.  This particular set is one of many with this elegant orchid design.  Today we are looking at the Boxed Note Set, which is the same style as the Keep Calm and Carry On set we looked reviewed a while ago.

A basic 4 1/4 inch square and inch and a half deep box with an orchid illustration that looks as though it was done in watercolor, the stems and stamin of the individual blooms are gold embossed and looks stunning.

It contains 250 lose notes that are pink with the same watercolor look floral design.  (Minus the gold embossing)

Check them out at Peter Pauper Press or on Amazon.com.
